How to Sync Facebook Events to Google Calendar and Android

It is no doubt that Facebook has become your number one spot to get updates from friends, family, colleagues, companies and many others. It has also become a place of real-time communication among people. Also it helps us when someone has birthday and wish him/her or where and when an event is going to get held. As we all are Google users, and not all have enough time to check Facebook now and then, we may want to sync Facebook birthdays and events with Google calendar. If you are wondering about syncing Facebook friends with Google+, you can only export Facebook Friends to Google with a workaround.

There are some good reasons you might want to have Facebook events in Google calendar.

  • You get all Facebook and Google+ events in one place.
  • You can sync Facebook events with Android device and view them on Android calendar.
  • You can save your time if you are checking Facebook only for events.
  • Your event management gets easier.

Syncing Facebook events with Google calendar means all your existing Facebook events will be exported to Google and new Facebook events will automatically added to Google calendar whenever they come. So once you set the sync, you never have to re-import Facebook events.

Note: The guide is updated with the latest Facebook Events page design.

Guide to Sync Facebook Events to Google Calendar

1. First go to Facebook home page facebook.com and click on Events from left-hand side (you must be logged in).

2. In the Events page, checkout the lower-right corner. There are two links of calendar. One is Birthdays and another is Upcoming Events.

3. Right click on the link “Upcoming Events” and copy the link address.

4. Now that you have the link to your Facebook events, it’s time to add the link to Google calendar. Now, head to google.com/calendar. At lower left-hand side, click on the arrow next to Other Calendar. There, in drop down menu, click “Add by URL“.

5. In the URL field, paste the event calendar link you copied from Facebook. Then hit Add Calendar.

Note: As a reader suggested, in case webcal:// URL is giving you error, replace webcal:// with https://.

6. Right after, you should see a message, “Imported successfully”. You can now see your newly added calendar at lower left corner. You can also change its settings, change color by clicking or arrow next to the label.

Note: This is an one way sync. Your Facebook events will be synced to Google/Android, but Google Calendar’s events are not going to your Facebook.

Done! You have linked Facebook events with Google calendar. From now, Google calendar will automatically sync your Facebook events. You can also see your Facebook events on your Android phone’s calendar if you use same Google account and turn the calendar sync on in android account settings. You can use that Facebook provided event sync link to other services like Apple iCal, Microsoft Outlook, etc. to sync events.

    • Dear Ephon, I don't see any design change regarding to the events and it's export interface. Can you specify me the exact thing you seen changed?

        • I see! Actually my events page is like the old one. I still wonder for whom and where Facebook implemented this kind of events page like yours. Can you try checking the "See all" from top-right corner? Let me know.

          • Hi, Jaber and Epoh! I am having the same problem and I think I found the solution. As in the screenshot from Epoh if you click "See All" in Birthdays this week in the upper right corner a new page will open and in the lower right there will be a little box with information about adding events to Outlook etc. If you click on "Birthdays" link in that little box, all birthdays will be exported to Outlook. But I am still figuring out how to export the calendar from there.

          • Hi Alexander Todorov, thanks for the valuable info you have shared with us. I think those with this new kind of events page can see hope with your comment!

          • Thank you so so much Jaber for your help!
Was that link there all the time?! A didn't see it before.
I did import my calendar as you instructed and got all the upcoming events yey! (wish I could see the past events too though).
Now I wonder how long it takes to sync? All events I'm invited to show up in the Google calendar. I go to FB and decline an upcoming event but it doesn't disappear from the Google calendar. If I unsubscribe and subscribe again to the Facebook calendar the declined event no longer shows in Google cal.

          • So, it did take something like 8 hours after a FB event which was synced to my Google and I later declined in FB to disappear from Google calendar on PC, and on Android I had to clear the calendar cache and/or data. But at least now I know! ^_^

          • You can still click right and copy the link address into google calendar even the interface has changed. It works for me :)

  • doesn't work...or I should suspect this has stopped working now! I was getting a parsing error initially, while adding the URL to my google calrndar. Finally the URL was accepted, but the facebook events are not visible on my google calendar!

    • If you don't see any error after adding, remember Google calendar takes some hours to make them appear on your calendar.

      • the problem is some kind of "parsing error" and has been noted on both sides. I'm still looking for a workaround that lets me add my fb events to my android calendar.

  • Hi. I just got one big problem. The message box appeared after i add calendar. It says "cant fetch url". How should i solve this? Thanks in advance!

    • Make sure you copied the URL from Facebook carefully and correctly. Post screenshots here if you still face the problem.

    • Same exact thing happened to me just now. Pasted it 2nd time and did not get error but the events don't show up on the calendar even though the calendar name is on the list of calendars.

    • Hi I have checked it right now and encountered the problem you said. After adding the URL, it says, "Syntax Error; Couldn't fetch the url".
Seems like it's a temporary issue with Facebook itself.

  • Big props for having a guide that is updated to the recent version of Facebook - it's hard to keep up with all their changes!

  • Thanks for the helpful article! I was also getting the "Couldn't Fetch URL" error, but then noticed that by default the link for "Upcoming Events" will start with the webcal protocol, i.e., "webcal://". You'll have to replace this with "https://" to get it to work.

  • hi there, syncing the facebook calendar with google calendars seems to be a one way sync, in that only new events will be added to the google calendar. Is there any way to automatically remove facebook events that i've responded "not going" to? As a result, my google calendar is now very cluttered with "declined" events. Thanks!

  • Has anyone managed to edit the events synced this way? I've already found you can't delete them unless you rsvp "not going". Now I tried adding an email reminder to a FB event and it won't let me either :/
